Women with Metal

Metals and mining have historically been difficult industries for women to break into, and female pioneers in the industry have had to surmount prejudice as well as legal and cultural barriers to advance their careers. 

Even today, 60 economies have at least one restriction on women working in mining, according to a 2020 World Bank report.

The UK Metals Council recognises this and is committed to making our sector as diverse as possible and this includes attracting more women into the industry.

With this in mind, we have thrown our full backing behind Women with Metal, an initiative set-up by Professional Polishing Services (PPS)’ Kirsty Davies-Chinnock.

Her aim is to create new connections between all women and allies working within the metal sectors and the focus of this activity is an annual conference, with the first one in 2023 attracting 100 delegates, a regular newsletter and the first international event held alongside The Aluminium Trade Show in Dusseldorf in 2024.

The 2026 Women with Metal Conference is taking place at the The Eastside Rooms  in Birmingham on September 17th and has several expert speakers confirmed to inspire, educate and give you the confidence to flourish in your careers.
